Is it worth to invest in batteries for your solar panels?

solar

If you have a solar energy system, you will need a battery bank to store the energy generated by the solar cells. Choosing the right configuration can be complicated and expensive. Then this is what you need to know.

Basically, there are 4 types of batteries and solar battery cost levels that you can use to store solar energy.

  1. Volatile batteries: this is a lead-acid battery. While this is a good type of battery, it should be stored outside your home due to the gases emitted and can be dangerous in your home. This type of battery is economical and will last for years if properly maintained. The most popular brands of this type of battery are Trojan, Surrette, and Deka. Be sure to ventilate the batteries in a housing.
  2. Recreational vehicle, marine and golf cart batteries: while the RV battery is of the deep cycle type, it is not recommended for solar use because its continuous charging capacity is too small so that it does not take long to make a fair choice. If you have a small system since they keep a longer rate.
  3. Type of gel: this type does not have ventilation holes and does not emit gas, so it can be used safely inside. Being able to use it where the temperature is constant is definitely an advantage because it helps the battery to work better and last longer.
  4. Type AGM: received glass mat In this type, a glass mat is placed between the cells to help load more time. This type of battery is considered by most sun users as the best because it lasts longer and keeps the battery for longer. They are leak-proof, leak-proof and do not emit gas. Although this type is more expensive, it’s worth it. This type of battery is used in aircraft, hospitals, and remote communication centers. The most sought-after brands of this type are Sun Xtender and Concorde.

Although the lead-acid battery is not the most recommended battery for this range of batteries, it is the type of battery most commonly used due to its economic factor. This type of battery will last for years if it is maintained properly and consistently. The lead-acid battery cannot be discharged empty or begins to damage the cells.

If the battery is discharged to less than 20%, it must be recharged immediately, otherwise, it will be unusable much faster. When the battery is completely discharged, it begins to accumulate sulfate in its plates and will not return to its normal capacity, so you do not want to discharge it to that extent.

Use only distilled water and do not refill the battery when the battery is charging only when the battery is fully charged and solar battery cost well charged. In short, you can store your batteries better inside and have more capacity than you should have in your home. The preferred battery for small and medium applications is the Trojan L-16 lead-acid battery.
